The last few years have been incredibly challenging for our industry. The United States hasn’t kept pace with global competition to attract production, and billions of dollars of investment in films and television projects has been spent in countries like Canada, England, South Africa, Ireland, Bulgaria, Romania, Argentina, and many more. Every year, this competition intensifies.

We must act now to make the U.S. a competitive and attractive place for production once again. That’s why the Coalition for American Production (CAP) is turning to Washington, D.C., to advocate for a federal tax incentive that brings jobs and opportunities back home.

We need your help to convince Congress this is an issue worth prioritizing.

Thank you,
TEAM CAP

Advocacy in Action

We’re more than a coalition, we’re a movement taking action. From meetings on Capitol Hill to direct conversations with policymakers, CAP members are advocating for a federal tax incentive that will support vendors, protect jobs, and rebuild America’s production landscape.

The Coalition for American Production (CAP) attended a constructive and encouraging meeting with senior advisors of the Trump Administration regarding a stackable federal tax incentive for the television and film industry. Administration staff demonstrated a deep knowledge of the issue and recognized its importance in sustaining and expanding American jobs, strengthening local economies, and bolstering television and film production throughout the United States. Administration staff commended CAP’s recent efforts on Capitol Hill and encouraged our continued effort to garner additional support from lawmakers on both sides of the aisle on Capitol Hill. It is clear to us that the Trump Administration is taking this issue seriously and is exploring all options to rebuild a domestic television and film industry in America that is more competitive on the world stage. The discussion underscored the urgency of restoring American jobs at a time when global production is rapidly shifting overseas. We appreciate the Administration’s thoughtful attention to this matter and will continue working collaboratively, in a bipartisan manner, with both Congress and the White House to advance this critical policy.

 FAQs

  • CAP advocates for a federal film and television production tax incentive to keep jobs, investment, and creative production in the U.S. We work with lawmakers, industry leaders, and local businesses to push this policy forward.

  • Many countries offer aggressive tax incentives that significantly lower production costs. Without a competitive federal film tax credit, U.S. projects are increasingly relocating overseas, resulting in lost jobs, revenue, and local business support.

  • A national incentive would create high-paying jobs, support small businesses, boost local economies, and keep the U.S. competitive in the global entertainment market. It would also strengthen our cultural footprint by ensuring more stories are made at home.

  • You can email your representatives, sign the petition, join CAP as a member, or attend our events in Washington, D.C. Every action helps amplify the need for federal support in the film industry.

  • Yes, many U.S. states offer their own tax credits, but they vary in scope and funding. A federal incentive would complement these programs and provide a stable baseline across all states.
